Team Teaching

Team Teaching
·         Our class have begun Belmayne ETNS’s Team Teaching.
·         All Children in Senior Infants are taking part.
·         The term Team Teaching is simply used to describe the fact that a number of Teachers are working with our class with children in smaller groups.
·         Children are divided into groups to work on Maths and English.
·         Team teaching compliments the Whole class teaching that your child receives every day in school and is guided by the Class Teacher.
·         Team teaching work is based on the plans of the Class Teacher and the needs of each individual group.
·         As the curriculum is child-centered, the teacher always ensures that each individual child’s needs are being met and differentiated for. This has always been the case.
·         Children are carrying out sorting/classifying/number work in Maths and Phonic/Word Identification/Reading in English etc… as is the case in a whole class.
·         The benefit of our Team Teaching is that children are working in small focused groups on their individual tasks.
·         In addition to Team Teaching your child will receive the same level of Maths and English curriculum work as they have always done.
1.       Each child works in small groups of 4/5.
2.       Team teaching happens on Monday and Tuesday.
3.       Children get 1 English session on Monday and Tuesday and 1 Maths session also on Monday and Tuesday.
5.       Each group works with 1 individual Teacher.
6.       Your child may receive a homework page from their Team Teacher which will need to be completed.

Word Bag Games

Below is a sample of some games that you could play with the children’s word bags.  This is not an exhaustive list so please feel free to make up your own.  Comment here if you findone that it works well!

Find the word – All cards facing up.  Asking the children to find a word (e.g. Len) as fast as they can.   Give clues as necessary (This word has 3  letters etc.,).
Mystery Word – Swap the previous game around to play ‘mystery word’.
Ask the child to pick a word from the bag.  They then have to describe it to you [e.g. This word begins with a B (pronounced ‘buh’), and ends in a ‘y’ and has 6 letter
etc.,]
Lost for words – Present 4 words (or more/ less depending on your child’s confidence with their words) to you child. Ask the children to close their eyes, and then take one of the words away.  Ask your child to open their eyes and see if they can remember the word you took way.
Make my sentence! – All cards facing up.  Make up a sentence (e.g.  I am Bunny, but the sillier the better!) and ask the children to find the words to find the words to make that sentence.
Who knows that word! – All cards facing down.  Child and adult take turns in picking up a card.  When  a card is picked up, turn it over and see ifyou can read the word.  If you can, you can keep the word.  If you cannot, youmust give the word to the other player. The person with the most words at the end of the game wins.
Sad Teddy (Hangman) – Lay all the cards facing up.  Pick a word (put don’t tell the other person!), and on a sheet of paper draw as many blank spaces with your pencil as there are letters in the word (e.g. Len = ____  ____    ____ ).  Encourage the other player to guess the missing letters.  If they guess it correctly, place the letter in the appropriate place.  If they guess incorrectly, then start drawing a ‘Sad Teddy’ (circle, eye, eye, nose, ear, ear and sad smile).
Enjoy!

September 2013

Hi all!

Welcome back to a new exciting year in Belmayne ETNS. Thank you for all your support throughout the past year. I am thrilled to have this class for another year as we have many more adventures still to explore. This year I am hoping the blog will be more active. I will be weekly updating the blog uploading useful websites or videos that children would benefit from.  So check it out and keep up to date with your children's activities in class.

Feel free to ask me if you have any queries.

Thanks,
Christine
